The London Borough of Lambeth has worked with Connected Kerb, an EV charging firm, to demonstrate how charging infrastructure can be introduced to increase EV adoption that isn’t dependent on off-street parking and charging. In the UK, the uptake of EV registrations has increased by 117% compared to last year, according to SMMT vehicle data. However, there are currently around 34 EVs on the road for every public access on-street charger and research from Centrica has revealed that councils are planning to install just 35 on-street chargers up to 2025. Additionally, 126 local authorities do not have public plans to increase charger availability. The new demonstration project aims to increase charging options for Lambeth residents, especially those living in high-rise flats and council estates are significantly less likely to have access to a private driveway, making it difficult to install home charging solutions.
