The European taxonomy, an EU-wide classification system for sustainable investments that will come into effect from 2021, has long been the source of disagreement among member states. In December of last year, European leaders finally agreed on a compromise to allow the use of natural gas and nuclear energy as “transition technologies”. Nevertheless, the debates on the matter are still topical, as evidenced by a letter from a German MEP to the European Commission. The letter, written by German Bundestag MP Sylvia Kotting-Uhl (Greens), is not only addressed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Vice-President Frans Timmermans, but also to Svenja Schulze and Anja Karliczek , German Environment Ministers of Education.
