Sir Ian Wood is backing plans to turn Scotland’s oil capital into a key hub supporting the transition to lower carbon energy. Opportunity North East, the economic development agency funded by Sir Ian, has laid out an ambitious plan to position Aberdeen as a centre for offshore wind, hydrogen and carbon capture usage and storage. Sir Ian, 77, believes many oil and gas supply chain companies in the area can also build a sustainable future. Aberdeen city council, the Aberdeen Harbour Board and the city’s universities are also supportive of the ambition to create an “energy transition zone”.
