Security will be stepped up at Holyrood over fears of climate change protests. All outside liquids will be banned, the regular entrance for cyclists will be sealed off and visitors with bags will have to give them to security and collect them when leaving. Extinction Rebellion is planning a five-day camp outside the parliament from Monday. The group wants the Scottish government to do more to “combat the climate crisis” by aiming for net zero emissions by 2025, not 2045. In March, protesters interrupted first minister’s questions and unfurled a banner but were quickly removed. Climate activists were more disruptive at Westminster a few days later when they glued their hands to the public gallery with their buttocks facing the chamber.
