The Committee on Climate Change has revealed that installations of residential insulation have fallen 90% in the last five years. The number of homes receiving energy efficient glazing has fallen too. Even though we occupy some of the draughtiest homes in Europe. The average home could certainly cut consumption by half and end up more comfortable. The UK is one of only three countries in Europe where the majority of houses rely on natural gas for heating. Gas boilers are to be found in 72% of houses compared with 11% with district or communal heating. Just 8% have an electric heat pump. But opinion polls suggest only 14% of us would ever consider changing our boilers.
