Hundreds of climate change activists yesterday took part in one of the biggest demonstrations against the British Museum following the institution’s refusal to cut its financial ties to BP. Environmental campaigners, including Extinction Rebellion activists and members of indigenous tribes, took over galleries, chanting “BP must fall” and tearing up the company’s logo. The museum’s Africa collection had been closed in advance for safety reasons. The demonstration came as the author and broadcaster Muriel Gray appeared to break ranks with her fellow museum trustees by expressing sympathy for the protesters’ cause.
