Scotland is “on the cusp” of a climate technology revolution, according to a new report highlighting the nation’s credentials for tackling global warming. It says the country is already playing a leading role to develop technology that can help meet the challenge of climate change. And it points to a string of north and north-east projects that are creating global opportunities for Scottish firms to capitalise on climate technology needs across a range of sectors, including energy, the built environment, land-use and transport.

SNP ministers have been told to draw up a blueprint to level with the public about “potentially contentious issues” including cutting meat and dairy consumption – while taxing high carbon foods has been pointed to as a potential “radical” solution. The Scottish Government has been told to be upfront with the public about what changes to diets will be required if carbon emissions are to be cut by 75% of 1990 levels in just 11 years’ time, as MSPs have committed to.
