Scottish budget sets out measures to help workers transition into green jobs. The Scottish Government is taking further steps to try and ensure workers have the skills needed to adjust and benefit from the energy transition. Finance Secretary, Kate Forbes delivered the 2021/21 budget in Holyrood earlier in which she pledged billions of pounds to help the country bounce back from the Covid-19 pandemic. It included a commitment to create a Green Jobs Workforce Academy, which will focus on “a national mission for new, good, and green jobs”.

Patrick Harvie, from the Scottish Greens, on whom the SNP will probably have to rely to get their plans through parliament, expressed frustration as real change could be brought about by “moving pennies here and there”. He said: “Even before Covid, Scotland was on track to miss targets on child poverty and climate emissions. This budget simply doesn’t address that, and refuses to consider progressive taxation.”
