The PM made the explosive claim about the First Minister – who’s made the green agenda her top priority – as he whipped Scottish Tory members into a frenzy at a boozy Conservative conference fringe event. He vowed the union flag should be prominent on all Westminster-funded policies and events in Scotland, including the COP26 summit in Glasgow late next year, where the UN wants world leaders to agree a response to the climate crisis.

Boris Johnson has told Nicola Sturgeon to stay away from a UN climate summit in Glasgow, and united the Scottish Conservatives behind a no-deal Brexit. In a defiant message to critics who accuse him of inflammatory rhetoric the prime minister said he would “stick to his guns” in using military metaphors against them. He told a Scottish reception at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester that he would unite the UK after delivering Brexit on October 31. Jackson Carlaw, interim leader of the Scottish Tories, aligned with the UK party and reversed his predecessor Ruth Davidson’s opposition to leaving the EU without an agreement. Mr Johnson promised to drape the Union flag around COP26, a UN climate change conference to be held in Glasgow in November next year.
