British Energy said on Tuesday it was inviting potential partners to submit proposals to build new nuclear power stations after the government backed nuclear power as a possible cleaner alternative to fossil fuels. It also said it expected to complete repair work at its Hunterston and Hinkley power stations by the end of March, as previously indicated.

Iran will be able to develop enough weapons-grade material for a nuclear bomb and there is little that can be done to prevent it, an internal European Union document has concluded. In an admission of the international community’s failure to hold back Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the document – compiled by the staff of Javier Solana, EU foreign policy chief – says the atomic programme has been delayed only by technical limitations rather than diplomatic pressure.

Uranium
UrAsia Energy said on Monday it would merge with Uranium One to create the world¹s second largest uranium miner, with a market capitalisation of some $5bn. The deal is a reverse takeover that will leave UrAsia shareholders owning a majority of the merged company but with Uranium One assuming control of the assets.
