The chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, whose handling of Iran’s nuclear defiance has provoked occasional US displeasure, plans to step down later this year.
Mohamed El Baradei’s current term ends on November 30 and the “Director General is not available for a further term of office,” said an internal document dated September 5 and circulated among the 35-nation IAEA board.

SCOTLAND’S nationalist government was accused of putting political ideology before the country’s energy needs yesterday by Labour energy spokesman Lewis Macdonald.
It was claimed ministers had a “short-term, blinkered approach” to energy, driven by the desire to rid Scotland of nuclear power.

Iran
Iran`s Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs, Mehdi Safari, said on Tuesday that Tehran has objection to any proposal ignoring it`s legitimate right to produce nuclear energy.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s chief foreign policy advisor Simon McDonald, who was head of Iraq policy at the Foreign Office from 2006 before taking up his post last year.
