The developer behind plans to build a tidal lagoon power project in Swansea Bay has hit back at the government’s decision not to offer the project financial support, claiming cost estimates used in Business Secretary Greg Clark’s statement to Parliament last month were a “manifest distortion of the truth”. After months of delays, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) finally published its six-page assessment of the 320MW Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon proposal on 25 June, in which it concluded the project did not offer taxpayer and bill payers value for money.
