Heriot-Watt University will be in the final of an international competition to build a solar-powered house during Expo 2020 in Dubai. The competition, which was created by the US Department of Energy, brings together universities from all over the world to design, build and operate a grid-connected, solar powered house. The house will be part of Word Expo 2020, which expects more than 25 million visitors over a six-month period. Heriot-Watt is the only Scottish and UK university that has been taking part.

AN UNCONVENTIONAL proposal to build solar-powered homes in Pershore was backed by council planners. A total of 75 highly energy-efficient and solar-powered homes will now be built on land off Station Road in Pershore after it was given approval by planners at Wychavon District Council. Greentown Housing take cues from Sweden by constructing various parts of the homes – such as walls, floors and doors – off-site and then putting them together on location. The homes would be the first of its kind in Worcestershire, the developer said.
