George Goudsmit of solar panel company AES Solar based in Forres in Moray, is to meet with Perry after local MP Douglas Ross visited its premises and arranged the meeting to discuss the impact of policy changes that will come about in March. He said: “We put a lot of time and effort into lobbying both the Scottish and UK Governments for the benefit of the industry, customers and our environment. We are solar energy specialists, it’s all we do so it is critical that we campaign for fair and sensible policies and we will communicate that to Claire Perry when we meet.”

The UK cities of Bristol and Plymouth and the county of Devon will get £1.9 million to develop energy efficiency, sustainability, and clean energy projects. Bristol in 2014 received a £50 million grant to accelerate its plans to be carbon neutral by 2050. Devon has ambitious plans of becoming 80% carbon neutral by the same date. The funding comes from the European Local Energy Assistance facility, which helps realize energy and sustainability projects. In the case of Bristol, those include hundreds of projects ranging from improvements in energy efficiency in commercial and domestic buildings to electric vehicle infrastructure and renewable energy installations. With the help of a previous, £50 million grant in 2014, Bristol City Council installed 8 MW of PV on the city’s buildings as well as realizing numerous other schemes. The authority’s cabinet member for energy, waste and regulatory services, Councillor Kye Dudd, announced the latest funding boost by highlighting the enormously positive impact of the previous grant, adding: “so we have high hopes for the opportunities [from] this latest round of European funding”.
