Liverpool Council has announced a partnership with blockchain non-profit Poseidon Foundation in a bid to become the “world’s first climate positive city” by the end of 2020. Under the “groundbreaking” deal announced yesterday, Poseidon will integrate its blockchain powered platform into Liverpool’s day-to-day operations and help drive the city council’s new climate positive strategy. Liverpool city council has an existing commitment to cut its overall carbon emissions by 40 per cent by 2030 against 1990 levels. But it hopes the partnership with Poseidon will help further reduce its emissions impacts through offsetting, enabling it to “rebalance” more than 110 per cent of the authority’s fuel and energy emissions via the blockchain platform.
