The UK government has relaxed its opposition to the development of subsidised onshore wind projects, agreeing to change the rules for clean energy contract auctions to allow developments on “remote islands” to compete. In an update published yesterday by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the government confirmed island-based onshore wind schemes of 5MW and above will be able to compete for a Contract for Difference for the first time since 2015.
