Richard Bruton, minister for climate action, has announced that €25 million in grants will be provided for energy upgrades for 700 homes and 570 community buildings. There were 57 successful applicants to the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland communities grant scheme. The SEAI said these grants would eliminate 34,676 tonnes of Co2 a year – the equivalent of taking more than 11,000 cars off the road. Mr Bruton said: “If we are to reach the targets set in the Climate Action Plan we must reduce the harmful emissions that come from our buildings. We need to scale up our ambition in this area.
