Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of mud from Bridgwater Bay near the site of the disused Hinkley A nuclear reactor will be dumped in the Bristol Channel when the new Hinkley C nuclear power station is built. The company building Hinkley C in North Somerset, EDF Energy, has obtained a marine licence to dump 200,000 cubic meters of dredged-up mud and sediment in the channel Cardiff Bay. One expert has said he fears the mud may be more radioactive than is currently believed, raising concerns about the proposed dumping.
