A parish council is bidding for hundreds of thousands of pounds from Hinkley Point to fund a community hub after months of ‘chaos’ has been caused by the plant’s development. Cheddar Parish Council hopes to give the pavilion in Sharpham Road an upgrade with the help of Hinkley Point’s Community Impact Mitigation Fund. The council is seeking £300,000 from the fund to put towards its project, which will cost around £450,000 in total to complete. Chairman Peter Colton said: “We have been encouraged to bid for the money because of the impact the Hinkley Point development is having on Cheddar. “Forty-tonne heavy goods vehicles take materials from Batts Combe Quarry, in Warrens Hill, to the site.
