Viridor has won the waste management contract at Hinkley Point C, the 3,200 MWe nuclear power station on the north Somerset coast. The waste management firm has made a zero to landfill agreement with EDF Energy, which is building two nuclear reactors at the site. Food waste will be taken to Viridor’s anaerobic digestion facility at Walpole in Somerset, and mixed dry recycling will be sorted through the Priorswood Materials Recycling Facility in Taunton. Non-recyclable waste will go to energy recovery facilities, including the Avonmouth Resource Recovery Centre, once this is operational next year.
