Fuel loading has begun of Russia’s first commercial floating nuclear power station, the Akademik Lomonosov, in the port city of Murmansk in the far northwest of Russia, state nuclear corporation Rosatom said. In April the plant was moved from its construction site in St Petersburg with no nuclear fuel on board. Fuel will be loaded in Murmansk and the plant will then be moved for deployment at Pevek, an Arctic port town in the country’s far north-eastern region of Chukotka, in the summer of 2019. Commissioning is scheduled for the autumn of 2019.
