French utility EDF said on Wednesday it would extend an unplanned outage of its 1,300 MW Flamanville 2 nuclear reactor due to a problem with a pump in the plant’s secondary circuit. Flamanville 2 had been halted on Tuesday and the reactor was ramping up to resume production on Wednesday but EDF had to delay the unit’s restart by another four days until Oct. 8. EDF said the fault occurred in the non-nuclear section of the reactor, and its turbine was automatically disconnected from the power grid. EDF is also building a long-delayed 1,650 MW EPR reactor on the site, which is scheduled to start up at the end of 2018.
