Vattenfall has switched on a 22MW battery at the Pen y Cymoedd onshore wind farm in South Wales, delivering its largest battery storage installation to date alongside Wales’ largest onshore wind farm. Located in the upper Rhonda, Cynon and Afan valleys, the system began commercial operation earlier this week. It is made up of six shipping container sized units, five of which house 500 BMW i3 lithium ion battery packs.
