A new report from the green think tank which argues that a more ambitious government agenda – requiring all new cars and vans to be zero emission by 2030 – could cut UK foreign oil imports by more than 50 per cent by 2035 compared to current projections. The study, conducted by Green Allliance and supported by CAFOD, Christian Aid, Greenpeace, RSPB and WWF, argues a rapid acceleration in the rollout of EVs will also improve public health by improving air quality in towns and cities. “The UK government’s commitment to end petrol and diesel vehicles sales in 2040 is too little, too late,” Gareth Redmond-King, head of climate and energy at WWF, said in a statement. “We can and must go faster.”
