Power giant Drax is now running four out of its six generating units on biomass rather than coal, it confirmed yesterday, putting the company on track to eliminate coal from its operations by the government’s 2025 deadline. Work started on the conversion of the fourth unit at the company’s power station in North Yorkshire in June, after Drax received confirmation in January the unit would be eligible for government subsidies.
