Nuclear power is not an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels, says a new study released Thursday by a Canadian environmental group.

ANTI-NUCLEAR campaigners have again called for Sellafield’s Thorp plant not to be re-opened following news that it is unlikely to start either shearing or chemical separation operations until after April next year. Members of Cumbrians Opposed to a Radioactive Environment (Core) are questioning the commitment by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority to re-open the plant, which has been closed following a leak 20 months ago.
